Nature & Escape

Perched on a hillside facing the Savuti plains, Ghoha Hills Lodge offers 11 tents with views across the Chobe National Park wilderness, powered by solar energy and designed for digital disconnection.

Ghoha Hills Lodge occupies a hillside in the north of the Chobe National Park, overlooking the Savuti plains. Eleven permanent tents with 180° views across the wilderness, solar-powered operations and a deliberate digital disconnect: the lodge prioritizes immersion over connected comfort.

Why choose Ghoha Hills Lodge

  • A hillside location with a sweeping 180° panoramic view over the Savuti plains and passing wildlife.
  • Limited capacity of just 11 tents, ensuring low occupancy and attentive service.
  • Solar-powered operations, complemented by comprehensive waste management and disposal systems.
  • Direct access to one of Botswana's densest concentrations of apex predators, with 4x4, walking and helicopter safaris available.

Atmosphere

The lodge has made a deliberate editorial choice: to disconnect from the outside world. Wi-Fi is limited to the main lounge and pool area, while mobile coverage is restricted to emergencies. The goal is to restore focus to the safari experience: you read, you watch, you listen to the bush.

The architecture embraces wood and canvas, with a large open-sided lounge overlooking the plains and a natural rock pool built into the hillside. From the wooden veranda of each tent, views extend directly across the savanna, where herds pass through regularly.

Tents and accommodation

The lodge has 11 tents in total: 9 doubles and 2 family tents accommodating up to 4 people (configured for couples with two children).

Each tent features:

  • a King-Size bed with crisp white percale and cotton linens, beneath a mosquito net;
  • an en-suite bathroom with separate toilet;
  • a wooden veranda overlooking the bush;
  • a digital safe, ceiling fan, bathrobe and slippers.

Services and activities

Activities depart from the lodge in small groups, led by local guides.

4x4 safari

The Savuti area, fed by the seasonal canal of the same name, supports dense wildlife: Kalahari elephants, lions, zebras, cheetahs, spotted hyenas and jackals. Full-day outings are possible, with packed lunches provided by the lodge so you can remain in the bush at midday without returning to camp.

Walking safari

Led by an armed ranger, walking safaris allow closer encounters with kudu, impala, hartebeest, oryx, springbok and zebra. It's a chance to notice tracks, listen to sounds and spot the subtle signs that vehicles often miss.

Helicopter safari

Available on demand, flights range from 15 minutes to one hour, offering an aerial perspective of the region: wetland areas, herds in motion, and predator sightings beyond the beaten track.

Birdwatching

The Savuti region and broader Chobe ecosystem host rich birdlife, particularly active during the rainy season when migratory species arrive. Nearly 450 species are recorded in the wider area: pelicans, white-backed vultures, raptors and a variety of songbirds.

Spa and pool

The lodge offers in-cabin treatments provided by therapists trained in recovery massage, perfect after a day on game drives or walking. The natural rock pool, accessible from the main lounge, completes the offering.

Location

Ghoha Hills Lodge sits in the Savuti area, the south-western sector of Chobe National Park, one of northern Botswana's premier parks. The region is renowned for its seasonal canal, saltpan and the concentration of predators that follows. Access is typically via light aircraft from Maun or Kasane, followed by a 4x4 transfer.

When to visit

The dry season, June to October, offers the best conditions for viewing large mammals: vegetation thins out, animals concentrate around waterholes and mornings are pleasantly cool. The rainy season, November to April, transforms the bush into lush green landscape and coincides with the arrival of migratory birds: a rewarding window for birdwatchers, provided you're prepared for occasionally challenging tracks.
