Camp Kadizora
Tented lodge located between the Vumbura and Selinda rivers, in the isolated northern section of the Okavango Delta, 6 km from Moremi Reserve.
Camp Kadizora is a tented lodge situated between the Vumbura and Selinda rivers, in the isolated northern section of the Okavango Delta. Overlooking a seasonal floodplain, it serves as a base for 4x4 safaris, walking safaris, mokoro excursions and hot air balloon rides, approximately 6 km from Moremi National Reserve.
Why stay at Camp Kadizora
The camp is situated in a rarely visited section of the delta, limiting tourism pressure on the game trails. Three elements set this property apart:
- A complete range of activities: game drives, walking safaris, mokoro outings (provided free of charge) and dawn hot air balloon flights.
- Strong local ties: the camp employs exclusively local residents, and offers exchanges with neighbouring farming communities (visits to the parish, stops at the health centre, fishing lessons).
- Mature vegetation covering all facilities: giant marulas, sycamore figs, wild mulberries and rain trees form a canopy of shade throughout the camp.
Atmosphere and architecture
The heart of the camp is organized around a central Boma, where a fire is lit at nightfall. The bar, lounge, reception and dining room are arranged in a horseshoe pattern around this communal space. A wooden walkway extends the layout to the swimming pool, whose terrace overlooks the floodplain.
The atmosphere remains that of a bush camp: no permanent walls in the accommodation, a constant auditory presence of wildlife and soft lighting that preserves the perception of the night sky.
The tents
Accommodation consists of 4 standard tents and 9 luxury tents, spaced to maintain privacy. Each tent features a private bathroom with bathtub and toilet. Furnishings are classically designed with rest between outings in mind.
For dining, breakfast is typically served on the terrace, lunch in the communal dining room and dinner as a buffet (starter, main course, dessert) featuring local produce. Meals and beverages are included in your reservation.
Activities and services
4x4 safaris and walking
Vehicle outings traverse marula and mopane forests in search of the delta's great predators and herbivores: lions, leopards, elephants, buffalo, zebras, wildebeest, impalas and greater kudus. Walking safaris are accompanied by an experienced ranger.
Mokoro and aquatic observation
The camp provides mokoros free of charge—lightweight dugouts used by local fishermen. Silent propulsion allows you to approach hippopotamuses, crocodiles, semi-aquatic antelopes (red lechwe, sitatunga) and the delta's abundant birdlife.
Hot air balloon at dawn
Flights depart at sunrise to take advantage of golden light and stable atmospheric conditions. This activity, rarely found in the area, offers an aerial perspective of the channels and flooded plains.
Community exchanges
Visits to the parish, stops at the health centre, fishing lessons and shared meals with locals are integral to your stay, reflecting the camp's commitment to local employment.
Good to know: pets are not accepted.
Location and access
The camp sits along the Vumbura River, approximately 6 km from Moremi National Reserve. Access occurs in two stages:
- International flight to Maun, the delta's main gateway.
- Charter flight in a small aircraft from Maun to the camp's airstrip.
Plan for half a day of travel from Maun, including transfers.
When to visit
The delta transforms with the seasons:
- August to November (dry season): the best period for safari photography. Wildlife concentrates around permanent water sources and less dense vegetation enhances sightings.
- December to March (rainy season): floodplains gradually inundate, landscapes become networks of marshes and lagoons. Mokoro excursions take precedence over game drives.
- April to July: water levels rise from Angolan rains, an interesting intermediate period combining both activity types.
